Seventeen schools from across Victoria attend the MGC 6th annual student run conference
Melbourne Girls' College recently held their 6th annual Environment Conference with the theme Green Networking. The event was organised by the MGC environment team with the support of their hard working teachers, Samone Hosking and Andrew Vance. MGC environment captain, Ruby Albury, said "At Melbourne Girls' College, we encourage sustainability to be a core aspect of peoples' thoughts and actions, and not just a fad. Our annual environment conference acts to link up sustainability-minded youths to give this movement momentum'.
This year students from 17 schools across Victoria attended and participated in a range of workshops delivered by students and local environmental professionals. The workshops offered students a chance to get involved, become inspired and make new friends with similar values.
The day wasn't just spent talking! Students' generated power for the conference by riding bikes on the Future Spark trailer, ate an eco-tarian lunch of BBQ kangaroo sausages and vege burgers and pledged to stop purchasing bottled water.
MGC Environmental Programs Coordinator, Andrew Vance, said "Melbourne Girls' College is passionate about sustainability. We have fabulous, well informed and well networked students who are fed up with the inaction of our political leaders who lack the commitment to make the necessary steps to combat climate change".
